Happiness is on the way/ don't believe me/ then listen

Happiness, hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
With every bubble she sank with a drink
And washed it away down the kitchen sink

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming so you better run

Run fast for your mother run fast for your father
Run for your children for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind you
Can't carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses
Cuz here they come
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/f/florence_and_the_machine/dog_days_are_over.html ]
And I never wanted anything from you
Except everything you had
And what was left after that too. oh.

Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back
Struck from a great height
By someone who should know better than that

The dog days are over
The dog days are gone
Can you hear the horses
Cuz here they come

Run fast for your mother and fast for your father
Run for your children for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your loving behind you
Can't carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over
The dog days are gone
Can you hear the horses because here they come

The dog days are over
The dog days are gone
Can you hear the horses because here they come.

Thank you, Florence + The Machine, for sending my soul to the heavens with happiness! This song resonates so deeply within me. I have purposefully ran from happiness before in my life, because it seemed so hard to attain. I was afraid that if I searched out joy, someone would come and take it away. I was afraid of loss, of losing a good feeling. I built walls intended for my own protection that only secluded me from my joy.

Sometimes, when you're really down and out, nothing can make you smile except for the knowledge that your happiness means the happiness of your loved ones. That's why I especially love this song. It tells you to "Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father, run for your children, for your sisters and brothers." Even if you can't do it for yourself, you can do it for them, and once you start running for who you love, the longing starts leaving. All I can picture when I listen to this song is a woman running, so fast, so swiftly, that pieces of her body, the bad memories and thoughts, break off in pieces and are left in her trail. All that lies ahead of her is a glowing orb of happiness.

But, in my opinion, the most powerful imagery in this song is "Can you hear the horses because here they come." I have always loved horses, and admired their beauty, power, passion, and grace. Nothing symbolizes happiness coming more than the idea of strength coming, so a stampede of wild black horses charging at me, making me confront my happiness, is the perfect visual.

This song just screams "Good things are on their way, so get prepared."

Such a great message, I made the song my alarm clock : ) And after several early morning wake up calls, I'm still as in love with this song as the first time I heard it (which was, by the way, before it was used on the Eat, Pray, Love trailer!).
